Will Thomas
Will Thomas is a composer & producer based in Los Angeles, California. He began his professional career writing music for movie trailers and was hired as the composer for the seminal dark-funk-techno-sic-fi show 'GvsE' on the USA/SyFy network. During a stint in New York City, Will released four albums under his minimal electronic moniker Plumbline on London’s Hydrogen Dukebox label. Two of the releases were collaborations with Roger Eno (Transparencies & Endless City/Concrete Garden). He has also released six albums under his song based collaborative project Dive Index which includes contributions from Natalie Walker, Merz, Joseph Arthur, Cat Martino, Simone White, Mark Gardener (Ride), Ian Masters (Pale Saints), Alison Chesley, Julia Kent, Jason Bentley, and The Album Leaf, among others. Dive Index has been warmly embraced by LA-based tastemaker radio station KCRW.
In between releasing albums, Will has worked on commercials, film and TV projects. His music has been featured in CSI, Melrose Place, and Netflix’s Insatiable, Outer Banks as well as trailers for Invisible Man and Haunting of Hill House. Other clients include Johnson & Johnson, Aveda, Smirnoff, Herman Miller, Cody, the Nocturne podcast and a sound installation for the flagship BMW showroom in Paris. He was the composer on the feature film, Downward Angel and the puppet horror film The Haunted Swordsman which won the award for Best Score at the 2021 Filmquest Film Festival. In 2017, Will was commissioned to compose and record an original piece for the Santa Barbara Dance Theater. He has also launched the In_Neutral app which allows users to collectively generate a unique and evolving piece of music in a site-specific, immersive environment.
The Dive Index album, Refolded: Waving At Airplanes Remixes revisits and reinterprets songs from the 2020 release -Waving At Airplanes - and features a remix by Mike Lindsay (of Tunng/LUMP) and vocals by Natalie Walker and Merz - out now on the Neutral Music imprint. After producing two Helen Money albums, Will teamed up with Helen for a dark and intense collaborative entitled “TRACE” is out now on Thrill Jockey Records.
